Further Growth in Ireland for Utilisoft

The All Island Single Electricity Market (SEM) is the wholesale electricity market being implemented across the entire island of Ireland, from November 2007. This new market will replace the current arrangement where electricity is bought directly by supply companies from power generators based on a series of contracts. In the SEM, competing generators will offer their output through a pool market where all electricity for the whole island will be bought and sold. All electricity companies in Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland will be required to buy and sell energy through this market.

The core component in Utilisoft’s solution is the Market Message Hub. Based on Utilisoft’s market leading GateKeeper software, the Market Message Hub provides a web services application to push encrypted data to the central market systems and to receive incoming data and will be fully conformant with the API message formats required for the Type 3 Communications. The Market Message Hub polls for the various data feeds within the SEM participants’ systems and performs all necessary processing to create messages to send to the central market systems and provides a web based user interface. Tynagh Energy will also be implementing Utilisoft’s Power Plant Bidding Tool.

Colin Spain at Tynagh Energy commented on the selection of Utilisoft’s solutions: “We examined all the potential suppliers of the software we require to participate in the market and Utilisoft was the logical choice. Their experience and expertise in helping participants meet market requirements, along with their proven dedication to the All Island SEM was exactly what we were looking for.

John Furness, Managing Director of Utilisoft commented: “We are actively working within the Irish market to ensure that all participants who select our software can meet the market readiness milestones and enable them to enter the market on schedule. Our commitment to the Irish SEM remains unequaled, and the selection by Tynagh Energy proves this.
